Spring Cleaning

Spring is officially here in Central Ohio! Although it feels like the weather can change at the drop of the hat, warmer temperatures are right around the corner. Spring brings more sunlight, longer days, more time to spend outside, and spring cleaning. While you are “Marie Kondo-ing” your house, don’t forget about prepping your heating/cooling system for the warmer days ahead! This is one chore you can’t afford to forget.

Change Your Air Filter

Changing your air filter is one of the easiest and most effective things you can do to maintain your air conditioning system. Changing the filter regularly (every month for 1” air filters, and every 3-6 months for 3” filters) helps prevent the buildup of dirt and grime in your system and can help your system last longer. Changing the filter will also keep the air circulating in your house clean and dust-free. This is especially important for those who have asthma or allergies, especially with allergy season right around the corner. Keeping a clean filter can also help reduce energy costs by 5-15%! Who doesn’t love saving money?

Most filters are available at Walmart, Meijer or any major store. You can also order Air Bear or Perfect Fit filters from us! Consult your owner’s manual for more info. In the 10 minutes or less it takes to change a filter, you can greatly improve the health of your AC system and your household! Be sure to check your specific model to find out what size filter you need.

Clean Your Air Vents

Clean air vents are a small detail that can make a big impact on the quality of the air in your home. Before using your AC system, make sure to go around the house and dust/sweep all air vents. Wipe the registers down with a damp cloth, and you will be good to go! This prevents any dust particles that may have accumulated from getting into the air when you turn your cooling system back on.

Turn On Your Cooling System

With the frigid winter Ohio had, it’s likely that your AC hasn’t seen much use for the past few months. There is no time like the present to check your AC! Turn it on for at least 5-10 minutes to make sure that cool air is coming out of the supply vents throughout the house. The air should come on within a few minutes, and then you can shut the system back off if you want. By doing this, any possible issues with your AC can be caught early. If you have issues, give Comfort Xpress a call and we will come out and diagnose the issue! Making sure your AC is up and running before you really need it will save you time in the future.

Happy Spring from all of us at Comfort Xpress!
