In most American homes, winter heating is responsible for sending nearly four tons of greenhouse gases into the air each month and as much as half of all the energy used in the home is wasted. • For climates with moderate heating and cooling needs, heat pumps offer an energy-efficient alternative to furnaces and air conditioners. Heat pumps can provide up to 4 times the amount of energy they consume. If you heat with electricity, a heat pump can trim the amount of electric you use by as much as 30-40%. High-efficiency heat pumps also dehumidify better than a standard air conditioner, resulting in less energy being used and more cooling comfort in the summer months.
